Solution 1:Delete spaces after the company name and before the company file extension.

  1. Uninstall QuickBooks Desktop from all the computers.
  2. Close QuickBooks Desktop.
  3. On one machine, open Windows File Explorer.
  4. Navigate to the company file location folder.
  5.  Right-click on the company file, then select Rename.
  6. Delete spaces, if any, between the filename and its extension and the name of your company.
  7. Test whether to open a company file or create a company file.

Solution 2: Hosting Turn off every computer with QuickBooks installed

Single-User Access

Note: Disabling Hosting Mode deactivates multiple-user access

  1. Open the company file by following the File menu > Utilities > Stop Hosting Multi-User Access
  2. It will open "Stop hosting multi-user access" where click Yes.
  3. Now, with the "Company file must be closed" appearing message, click on Yes.

Multi-User Access

Note: This error want to say that one or more client computers are configured to host multi-user access incorrectly.

  1. On each client computer that shows the error:
  2. In the No Company Open window, click File, then click Utilities.
  3. Make sure the menu choice Host Multi-User Access is shown. One or more client computers might show the menu choice, Stop Hosting Multi-User Access, meaning they are already hosting multi-user access.
  4. On any client computer showing the Stop Hosting Multi-User Access option, choose the Stop Hosting Multi-User Access option and then follow the prompt to stop hosting.
  5. Try opening the file again that is causing a problem. The log-in window should now appear. If the issue persists, then move to Solution 3.

Solution 3: Run the Quick Fix My Program tool on the client's computer

  1. On the client’s computer, download and install the QuickBooks Tools Hub. You ran this utility to perform the File Doctor.
  2. Select Program Problems in the QuickBooks Tools Hub.
  3. Select Quick Fix My Program.
  4. Open QuickBooks Desktop and your data file.
